Congratulations to 2020 Leadership Studies graduate, Drew Whitehead!

Drew Whitehead will receive a Leadership Studies Minor and a degree in Computer Engineering from Iowa State University. Congratulations, Drew!

What are your career plans after graduation?

Post-graduation I will be pursuing my PhD in Engineering Education from Purdue University and entering academia.

 

What other goals do you have for your life after graduation (hobbies, travel, self-improvement, etc.)? 

Go to Trinidad and Tobago, create more apps, take an acting course, and learn computer animation.

 

What was your favorite Leadership Studies class? And why?

My favorite Leadership Studies class was Leadership in Engineering Teams (ENGR 250) due to Katie’s, Katherine Friesen, enthusiasm for leadership and the courses she taught in general.

 

How do you feel Leadership Studies has made an impact on you?

Leadership Studies has further instilled the importance of leadership in me and has taught me more forms that leadership takes shape.

 

After your time in the program, what is your definition of leadership?

Leadership is the ability to take action, physical or verbal, that inspires others to do good around you.

 

What activities, clubs, groups were you a member of at ISU?

I was a member of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Incorporated National Society of Black Engineers, Society of Hispanic Professional Engineers, Multicultural Student Leadership Council, Engineering Student Council, National Pan-Hellenic Council, African Student Association, and Black Student Alliance.

 

What is your favorite memory from being at ISU? 

My favorite memory was helping the Academic Program for Excellence (APEX) win the MSA Scholars Cup for the first time.

 

What would you say to someone considering a Leadership Studies minor or certificate?

Do it! It’s an amazing area and you learn so much about leadership that you would have never thought of.
