Eligibility
The program is designed for students with an interest in engineering, business or agriculture. All full-time undergraduate students at Iowa State University are eligible to apply. Priority will be given to students with at least two academic years remaining in their plan of study. VILP alumni are not eligible to reapply.
Scholarship and Travel Support
Participants will be awarded a scholarship of $1,000 for the fall semester and $1,000 for the spring semester. Flight and lodging for the week-long international trip will be provided, along with some meals.
Curriculum
From August to May, students can expect to invest 10-15 hours per week in focused activities to develop their leadership capacity. These will include two academic courses plus co-curricular activities comprised of weekend retreats, day trips, community service volunteering, cohort projects and the international trip over winter or spring break. The required academic courses include:
LD ST 322: Leadership Styles and Strategies in a Diverse Society
Enrolled in as a cohort in the fall semester. Meets U.S. Diversity requirement.
LD ST 360: Cultural Competency and Global Leadership
Enrolled in as a cohort in the spring semester. Meets International Perspectives requirement.
These courses partially fulfill requirements of the Leadership Studies Program’s certificate and minor.
