Leadership Statement: Leadership is the process by which a person guides a group of people, who share a mission or vision, by equipping and empowering individuals to use their talents and skills to contribute to the benefit of the group.
Background: Paul joins the Leadership Studies program at Iowa State University with a wide variety of educational experiences and organizations through which leadership can be studied and learned.
Education: Paul earned his Bachelor of Arts degree in Elementary Education at the University of Northern Iowa, with minors in Leadership Studies and Social Studies; a Master of Arts degree at the University of Northern Iowa in Post-Secondary Education: Student Affairs; and a Master of Divinity degree at Wartburg Theological Seminary. He considers himself a life-long learner and continues to gain new skills to varying degrees of success.
Leadership Practice: Paul has served his community through involvement in community boards (school, library, little league), national boards (education), volunteering (school, community), and coaching his kids in various sports (basketball, baseball, softball).
One philosophy Paul carries through all involvement is that everyone has a story that is worth listening to– not everyone has the same platform through which their story can be told. Paul wants to listen and learn through story, giving every student the opportunity to share more deeply who they are and what hopes they have for the future.
When not at work, Paul can be found spending time with his family, roasting coffee, gardening, reading, running, or playing all kinds of sports.
